06 — The Martyrdom
The most carefully hedged section of the collection. The tradition that Laura was put to death in 864 by being cast into a vat of molten lead is reported strictly as what the (late) sources attest — never asserted as established fact (METHODOLOGY §3.5) — and is followed by a sober accounting of what can and cannot be affirmed.
