04 — The Sources and Attestation
The flagship source-critical section of the collection (METHODOLOGY §3.5). The decisive fact about Laura is chronological: she died in 864, after St. Eulogius’s own martyrdom in 859, so she falls just beyond the great contemporary martyr-corpus. These files inventory who actually records her — and how late — and weigh the dating.
| File | Description |
|---|---|
| who-records-laura.md | FLAGSHIP (§3.5): precisely which sources attest Laura, and how late; the Aurea hinge; the spurious “Luitprand” forgery; what can and cannot be affirmed |
| dating-and-uncertainty.md | The death-year 864 and the feast (19/21 October), carried by the later tradition; why no contemporary document fixes them |
