Section 04 — Bishop in America
On the Third Sunday of Great Lent, 1904, Raphael was consecrated Bishop of Brooklyn by Archbishop Tikhon and Bishop Innocent — the first Orthodox episcopal consecration on American soil, and a landmark of American Orthodox history. As bishop he continued and crowned his mission: the continental travels, the ~30 parishes, and the magazine Al-Kalimat / The Word, earning the title “Good Shepherd of the Lost Sheep in America.”
Tradition: Antiochian Orthodox (Arab-American diaspora)
