Section 05 — The Multiethnic Church
Raphael’s whole American career belonged to a single, unrepeated moment: the pre-1917 unity of all the Orthodox of America — Russians, Arabs, Greeks, Serbs, Rusyns, and others — under one Russian-led archdiocese, in the conciliar vision of Archbishop Tikhon. This section sets Raphael within that unity and examines his distinctive contribution to it: the liturgical and publishing work by which he gave the Arab diaspora the Church in its own language.
