02 — The Kollyvades Movement
The eighteenth-century Athonite renewal within which Nicodemus’s whole life’s work stands: the Kollyvades movement — its origin in a dispute over the day of memorial services, its expansion into a contest over frequent Communion and the integrity of the liturgical tradition, and its deeper meaning as a return to the Fathers led by Nicodemus, St. Makarios of Corinth, and St. Athanasios Parios.

| the-athonite-renewal.md | The flagship context: the origin of the dispute at the Skete of St. Anne over Saturday vs. Sunday memorials; the kollyva that gave the movement its name; the three leaders; the persecution and exile of the Kollyvades; the movement’s reframing as a renaissance of patristic and liturgical Orthodoxy. |
| tradition-against-innovation.md | The deeper principle at stake — fidelity to the received tradition against unexamined innovation — and how it governed Nicodemus’s editorial program; the irony of “traditionalists” charged with novelty; the long vindication. |
