09 — Glorification and Legacy
The end and the afterlife: the repose of Archbishop Nicholas in Tokyo in 1912, the honor paid him by the Japanese state, and his burial at Yanaka; and his glorification as Equal-to-the-Apostles by the Moscow Patriarchate in 1970 — the same act that granted the Church of Japan its autonomy — together with that Church as it stands today.
This section covers his death and honors, his canonization, and the living Japanese Orthodox Church that is his legacy.
