07 — The Japanese Church

The achievement itself: the self-supporting, conciliar Japanese Orthodox Church that Nicholas built — governed through regular councils with clergy and lay delegates, financed increasingly by its own people, and numbering tens of thousands by his death — and the texture of life in its scattered communities.

This section describes the Church as an institution and as a living body: its conciliar government, its disputed statistics, and the everyday life of its congregations.
