06 — Prayer, Stillness, and Tears
Isaac the teacher of prayer: the gift of tears that marks the soul’s passage from the bodily to the spiritual life, the hesychia (stillness) of the solitary, the stages of prayer, and the threshold beyond which prayer itself ceases and passes into wonder. The teaching that made Isaac a “doctor” of hesychastic mysticism for the whole later tradition.
