05 — Against the Old Believers
St. Dimitri’s confrontation with the Old Believer schism (the Raskol): his major polemical work, the Inquiry into the Schismatic Brynsk Faith, written in his last year against the Old Believer communities of the Bryn forests — set within the full context of the seventeenth-century schism, with the Old Believer perspective and the modern reassessment of the Nikonian reforms presented honestly alongside Dimitri’s own harsh refutation.
This section handles a contested topic with care, per the repository methodology’s both-sides rule (§4). The first file treats Dimitri’s polemic and the modern reassessment; the second sets out the schism itself — its origin, its grievances, and its long aftermath.
