04 — The Teachings
The teaching of a preacher who wrote nothing but letters: the Didaches are transcribed, secondhand, possibly embellished sermons surviving in no autograph — the flagship transmission problem of the whole tradition. This section sets out that problem and then treats the content of the preaching honestly, including the harder material about Jews and Muslims and Vaporis’s omission of four anti-Jewish passages.
Tradition: Greek Orthodox (canonized 1961)
