05 — The Sermons

Andrew the preacher: alongside the hymns, a substantial body of festal homilies preserved in PG 97, including some of the earliest fully developed Byzantine preaching on the Mother of God — his orations on her Nativity and Dormition — and homilies on Lazarus, Palm Sunday, and the Exaltation of the Cross. This section treats the Marian homilies and the wider festal preaching.

This section surveys Andrew’s prose: the landmark Marian homilies (now available in the translations of Cunningham and Daley) and the festal sermons that fill out the liturgical year, all cited to PG 97 where the columns are verified.
