01 — Scripture in the Church

The governing principle of the whole collection: the Bible is the Church’s own book, composed in her, canonized by her, and rightly read only within her; and Holy Scripture is the supreme written expression within Holy Tradition, not a self-authenticating text set over or against the Church.

Tradition: Pan-Orthodox

This section states the theological foundation on which everything else in the collection rests. Orthodoxy does not begin its account of Scripture with the individual reader and the private text, but with the community of faith from which the Scriptures came and within which they are heard. The two files develop the two faces of this one conviction.
