The Prophets in Worship and Icons

How the prophets live in the Church’s worship — the Old Testament readings (paroimiai) at the Vespers of feasts, the Nine Biblical Odes that frame every canon, and the two Nativity Sundays — and how they are painted and honored at their tombs. The second file is the collection’s source-critical flagship: the Lives of the Prophets as the source of most martyrdom and burial traditions.

Tradition: Pan-Orthodox

The first file, the-prophets-in-worship.md, gathers the liturgical life of the prophets: the paroimiai at Vespers, the prophetic canticles of the Nine Biblical Odes (deferring the mechanics of hymnography to the sibling collection but treating the prophetic content here), and the two Sundays before the Nativity. The second file, the-prophets-in-icon-relic-and-legend.md, is the flagship: the prophets’ row of the iconostasis (consistent with the icons collection), and then the source-critical pinning of the prophets’ deaths and tombs — distinguishing Scripture from the Lives of the Prophets pseudepigraphon from the later synaxaria, per METHODOLOGY §3.5.
