The Great Prophets I — Isaiah

Isaiah (feast 9 May), “the fifth evangelist,” whose book supplies the Church’s clearest prophecies of Christ — the virgin’s Immanuel and the Suffering Servant — and her thrice-holy hymn; and the martyrdom tradition of his death by sawing, pinned to its sources.

Tradition: Pan-Orthodox

The first file, isaiah-the-fifth-evangelist.md, treats the Immanuel prophecy (Isaiah 7:14; the parthenos/almah crux) and the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53), presenting the Church’s christological reading while reporting the Jewish and critical readings accurately per §4.1, and deferring the unity-of-Isaiah question to the Scripture collection. The second file, the-vision-and-the-martyrdom.md, treats the throne-vision of Isaiah 6 — the source of the Sanctus and the seraphim, tying the collection to the bodiless powers — and pins the martyrdom-by-sawing to the Martyrdom/Ascension of Isaiah and the possible allusion in Hebrews 11:37, per §3.5.
