Section 06 — Chaplain and Return to Serbia
The last chapter of Sebastian’s life turned from America to the Serbian homeland: chaplaincy in the Serbian army during the Balkan Wars and the First World War, a gradual withdrawal from the American mission, and final years of poverty and prayer in Serbia, ending at the monastery of Žiča, where St. Nikolai (Velimirović) buried him in 1940.
Tradition: Serbian Orthodox / American (glorified 2015)
The first file follows Sebastian into the wars and the wartime service that drew him permanently back to the Old World; the second follows him to his poverty-stricken last years, his death at Žiča, and his memorialization by St. Nikolai — the material on which his glorification would later rest.
