Section 04 — The Writings and English Liturgy
Sebastian was not only a builder of parishes but a pioneer of the printed and preached English word in American Orthodoxy. This section treats his English-language books of 1898–1899 — among the earliest Orthodox works published in English in America — and his place in the century-long movement to render Orthodox worship, teaching, and preaching into the language of the New World.
Tradition: Serbian Orthodox / American (glorified 2015)
Where Section 03 treats what Sebastian built, this section treats what he wrote and preached. His books predate Isabel Hapgood’s landmark 1906 Service Book, and they place him among the very first to argue, in print and in English, that Orthodoxy could and must speak the language of its adopted country.
