Overview
St. Paisios was first and foremost a monk — an Athonite hesychast formed by decades of ascetical life on the Holy Mountain. While his pastoral influence extended far beyond the monastic world, the monastic life remained the context and source of everything he taught. Understanding Athonite monasticism is essential for understanding St. Paisios.
