06 — Sources
The source-critical treatment of St. Nikephoros: a twentieth-century saint documented by living witnesses, photographs, and medical records — a case at the opposite end of the hagiographic spectrum from the anciently-attested saints — and the corpus of his reported words.
Tradition: Greek Orthodox (20th-c. Cretan monk; glorified 2012)
This section steps back from the narrative to ask what kind of evidence stands behind it. Nikephoros is a limit case in the favourable direction: where the repository’s flagship source-critical file treats a saint (St. Xenia) of whom almost nothing is documentable, Nikephoros is a saint whose outer life is documented to a degree hagiography rarely permits — while his inner life and miracles remain, per the methodology, matters of attested testimony.
