04 — The Ascetic of Joy

The interior life of St. Nikephoros: the unceasing Jesus Prayer that remained to him when blindness and paralysis had taken everything else, and the accounts of the fragrance, radiance, and gifts of holiness that his witnesses reported — reported here, per the repository methodology, as the tradition attests and pinned to their named witnesses.

Tradition: Greek Orthodox (20th-c. Cretan monk; glorified 2012)

This section turns from the outward history to the inward life the tradition regards as its meaning: a monk who, deprived of sight, mobility, and health, was left with prayer alone, and in whom that prayer is said to have produced a joy and a radiance that others could perceive. The second file applies §3.5 attestation-pinning with particular care to the reported spiritual gifts.
