08 — Theology and the Neptic Mind
The theological mind that governed all of Nicodemus’s labors: the neptic (watchful) spirituality of the guarding of the senses and the heart that is the inner content of the Philokalia and the Handbook, and the deeper “patristic mind” — the total saturation in and submission to the Fathers — that was Nicodemus’s method, his criterion, and his gift to modern Orthodoxy.
