06 — Disputed and Apocryphal Episodes
The flagship disputed-topics section (per METHODOLOGY §4). Two famous episodes are adjudicated with all sides sourced: the claim that Stalin visited Matrona in 1941 — rejected by the Church’s own canonization researcher and excluded from the canonical Life — and the tradition that St. John of Kronstadt named her “the eighth pillar of Russia,” retained in the Life but resting on the late tradition alone.
Tradition: Russian Orthodox (canonized 1999/2004)
These files report all sides with sources and assert nothing as fact. The Stalin episode is treated as an unattested legend the Church refused; the John of Kronstadt meeting as a hagiographic claim pinned to its source. Together they show the difference between what the commission excluded and what it retained.
