01 — Foundations
The village origins of St. Matrona of Moscow: birth in Sebino in Tula province around 1881, born blind into a poor peasant family, and the childhood reputation for prayer and insight that the tradition records — all pinned, throughout, to the late devotional sources from which they descend.
Tradition: Russian Orthodox (canonized 1999/2004)
This section establishes the village foundations of the life and, equally, the source frame within which every later claim must be read. Matrona’s childhood reaches us almost entirely through Zinaida Zhdanova’s Skazanie (1993) and the canonical Life corrected from it; these files report that material as what the late Life attests, never as documented fact (see the source-critical frame).
