07 — Sources
The sources for St. Joseph’s life, and the survivals of his literary work. This section assesses the biographical record in the repository’s source-critical manner (§3.5) and takes a careful, honest inventory of what remains of his scholarly, editorial, and liturgical labor.
Tradition: Antiochian Orthodox (Arab New-Martyr of the Patriarchate of Antioch)
This section complements Section 04’s attestation of the martyrdom with a broader look at the sources for the life, and it makes an honest reckoning with the question of St. Joseph’s own writings — where the record supports the title “scholar” firmly, “editor” and “translator” well, and “hymnographer” only cautiously.
