02 — Unalaska and the Unangan
The decade among the Aleut (Unangan): the church Veniaminov built with his own hands, the school, and the baidarka voyages of a parish scattered across a stormbound sea; and the linguistic achievement — an Aleut alphabet, the first books in an Alaskan native language, and the missionary classic Indication of the Way into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Tradition: Russian Orthodox / American (canonized 1977)
