Why St. Iakovos Tsalikis is a very well-documented recent saint — the monastery’s own biography, the synaxarion hymnography, the named living witnesses, and the surviving recordings of his voice — and the character and provenance of his reported words. These two files set out the evidentiary situation of a saint who died in 1991, and read his transmitted sayings for what they are.
Tradition: Greek Orthodox (20th-c. elder; glorified 2017)
Iakovos is at the opposite end of the hagiographic spectrum from the ancient saints of thin and late attestation. He reposed within living memory; his monastery, his disciples, and recordings of his voice survive. Yet the abundance is largely devotional and oral — gathered by those who venerated him — and its most striking claims are of a kind history reports rather than certifies. This section treats that situation directly: the wealth of the record and its devotional provenance, and the reading of his reported words with attention to how they reach us.

| The Sources for His Life | The evidentiary situation of a very recent saint: the monastery biography and The Garden of the Holy Spirit; the synaxarion Life; the named witnesses; the surviving audio and video recordings; and an honest account of the devotional provenance of it all. |
| His Reported Words | The character of Iakovos’s transmitted sayings and counsels — their themes of humility, mercy, and trust in God — and the provenance through which they reach us, read with the methodology’s caution about compiled oral tradition. |
