01 — Foundations

The starting point: who St. Andrew the Fool is as the Life presents him — a Scythian bought as a slave into the household of the Constantinopolitan Theognostos — and how his name and cult were received differently in the Byzantine East and the Slavic North.

Tradition: Byzantine (Constantinopolitan)

These two files establish the figure and the shape of his veneration before the later sections examine the text, the folly, the vision, and the source problem. Both are written under the governing caution of this collection: what follows is the figure of the Life, not a documented biography. The historical status of that figure is treated in 05 — Hagiography vs. History.
