08 — Sources and Repose
A well-documented twentieth-century saint: the sources for his life — his letters, the convent’s records, living witnesses, and photographs — and his foretold death on 16 April 1970 and the veneration that immediately followed.
Tradition: Greek Orthodox (20th-c. elder; Ecumenical Patriarchate)
This section steps back to consider how Amphilochios is known, and then follows him to his death. The first file treats the documentary basis of his life — unusually good by hagiographical standards, and the reason this collection can be “born verified” — and what that documentation does and does not settle. The second treats his repose in 1970 and the immediate growth of his veneration that led, in time, to his glorification.
