Section 08 — Glorification (1994)
The Orthodox Church in America’s act of glorification on 29–30 May 1994 at St. Tikhon’s Monastery in South Canaan, Pennsylvania — the proclamation, the title “Confessor and Defender of Orthodoxy in America,” the enshrined relics, and the feast — set in the context of the 1994 bicentennial of Orthodoxy in North America and the wider synaxis of American saints.
Tradition: Carpatho-Rusyn / American Orthodox
The first file treats the glorification act itself: the date and place, the proclamation’s exact language and title, the relics exhumed and enshrined, and the bicentennial setting in which the OCA glorified Toth alongside its other American saints. The second file treats the veneration that followed — the relics at St. Tikhon’s, the feast on 7 May, the hymnography and iconography, and the parishes and cathedrals that bear his name. Both keep the repository’s distinction between what a glorification is (the Church’s recognition of a holy life) and what it is not (a certification of every biographical detail), a distinction the historiography section has already put to work.
