05 — The Wonderworker and Elder

St. Alexander as wonderworker and spiritual father: the miracles and prophecies the Life attributes to him, pinned to Irodion’s near-contemporary text and reported as what it attests; and his disciples, who went out from the Holy Trinity Monastery to found a constellation of monasteries across the Russian North — the “Northern Thebaid” of which Alexander is a father.

Tradition: Russian Orthodox

This section gathers the two ways St. Alexander’s holiness reached beyond his own cell: through the wonders and prophecies ascribed to him, and through the spiritual progeny that carried his monastic life across the northern country. Both are reported with the discipline the whole collection observes — the miracle accounts pinned to the Life as testimony, the monastic progeny traced through the named disciples whom the tradition remembers.

The two files below treat, first, the miracles and prophecies attributed to Alexander, and, second, his fatherhood of the northern monasteries — the disciples who founded further houses and made the Svir a mother-monastery of the Russian North.
